We hosted the first Garage Sale on Sunday the 20th Sept 2020 and the second Garage Sale the next Sunday 27th.

We were quite pleased with the amount raised - $1,114 - considering people were still a little hesitant about being out and about after the Covid19 lockdown.

GARAGE SALE FOR SIGNAL HILL SANCTUARY

We love the ethos of Signal Hill Sanctuary and everything they are doing for farm animals.

"Signal Hill Sanctuary provides refuge, safety and a voice to farmed animals suffering, or at risk from exploitation, abuse, neglect or abandonment. Through sharing their stories, allowing members of the public to interact with them and encouraging community involvement, we assist people in understanding the realities of common farming practices and viewing farmed animals as sentient individuals not unlike a family dog or cat. With understanding comes compassion, with compassion comes respect for all life."

With the help of our many supporters, our recent Garage Sale raised just under $1,600 to help the animals at this amazing Sanctuary.

GOFUNDME - STREET CAT APPEAL NARROGIN

he link to our fundraiser for the Street Cats of Narrogin: Street Cat Appeal Narrogin
We (Friends of the Animals Perth) are hosting this fundraiser for Yvette Harper of Narrogin WA to help her with the cost of her rescue and rehabilitation work that she is doing for the feral or homeless cats of Narrogin. Every little bit supporters can contribute will be gratefully accepted by Yvette and will help her continue to do the amazing work she started nearly 5 years ago.

Yvette's Story:
When Yvette first moved to Narrogin in 2014, she quickly realised that the cat population was out of control. Every house in the area had at least 2 to 4 strays hanging around. The town centre saw 100s at night scurrying around but terrified of any humans that tried to approach. Yvette decided something had to be done so she contacted the local vet but unfortunately they couldn’t offer any solution to the mammoth problem. After speaking to a few locals Yvette decided to do some research on local pages on Facebook. She asked what the local people wanted – did they think the cats could be trapped, housed and rehabilitated? And would people want that, or would they want the cats to be euthanised?

A majority of those responding to her post chose “rehabilitation”. After meeting with the town Ranger where they discussed what methods had been trialled (and failed) previously it was obvious to Yvette that the town was divided on what should happen to the cats. So Yvette decided the only thing to do was to open her house to the cats! Suitable enclosures needed to be installed and then the work could begin!

Since the start of her work all those years ago, Yvette has taken in any cat that comes to her door – no cat is turned away! Feral cats, sick cats, injured cats – they are taken in and appropriately rehabilitated to their needs. They are handled appropriately while being given treatment, for their safety as well as Yvette’s! Yvette found that some cats can take from 6 months to 2 years to be rehabilitated enough for them to go to new homes. This is because Yvette never gives up on any cat – no matter how big and nasty they appear at first. We think Yvette should be very proud of herself. She has successfully rehabilitated approximately 1200 cats since she started taking them into her home and has also worked closely with a few Perth rescues to help rehome some of the cats.

It is amazing that Yvette has managed to do the majority of this work while being on disability payments after a motor vehicle accident 10 years ago and while going through her own rehabilitation – learning to do everything again, including walking and eating!! Yvette has said that the cats have helped her as much as she has helped them and they give her motivation to get better. Yvette does receive some food donations here and there but is often juggling her finances so that the needs of the cats are met (even before her own)!

Yvette has never had less than 18 cats in her care at any time and currently has 37! Sometimes a cat is not able to be rehomed for medical reasons so Yvette does palliative care for them so they are comfortable and loved with her until it’s their time to leave this world – a full belly, comfortable bed and the medical treatment needed to ensure they are pain free. Yvette and her supporters have made headway with the cat population in Narrogin seeing an 85% reduction of cats. This has been hard and sometimes sad work that Yvette does, but she has told us that it is also very rewarding. She is making a difference and has saved thousands of cats and given them a second chance. Yvette is an inspiration and we feel she is someone very worthy of our support.

FROM THE VALLEY TO THE RAINFOREST - AUG 2017

Our 32auctions event has gone live and everyone is welcome to start making bids via this LINK: www.32auctions.com/FOTAPerthAuctionAug2017

THE CAUSES WE'RE FUNDRAISING FOR AND WHY...
ORANGUTANS:
Most people know #PalmOil production is the main reason for the devastating loss of tropical rainforests in Indonesia and the destruction of habitat for endangered species like the Orangutan.  What people may not know is that approximately 50% of items on supermarket shelves have palm oil (or a derivative) in them.
In Australia, only 3 vegetable oils must be labelled in food: peanut oil, sesame oil and soy bean oil. This is because some people have allergies to these oils. To help people make informed consumer decisions, we will be giving one of these wallet sized cards to every winner of items in our auction.
There is more information about this horrendous industry: http://www.palmoilinvestigations.org/about-palm-oil.html
*Warning - there are images and text in the page linked above that are very upsetting but we feel it is imperative that we as consumers are informed about our choices.
Part proceeds from the funds raised in this auction will go to provide enrichment materials and medical and specialist equipment and supplies for a Orangutan care centre in Bornea, Indonesia.

POSSUM VALLEY ANIMAL SANCTUARY
Their Mission
It is our aim to prevent or relieve the suffering of animals by:
(a) Providing a rescue and rehabilitation service for orphaned or injured native, domestic and... ‘farm’ animals;
(b) Operating a sanctuary where injured or orphaned native wildlife, incapable of returning to ‘the wild’ and farm animals who are neglected or would otherwise be destined for human consumption can spend the rest of their natural lives, without fear of unnecessary euthanasia, predation, human consumption or exploitation;
(c) Providing and/or facilitating foster care for domestic and ‘farm’ animals and finding ‘forever’ homes for animals in temporary care, so that they can live the rest of their lives as part of a family, without fear of unnecessary euthanasia, predation, human consumption or exploitation; and
(d) Educating the public about the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect for their needs and promoting lifestyle and dietary choices so as to reduce the suffering and exploitation of animals, regardless of species.

Part proceeds raised will go to provide shelter and medical care for wildlife and rescued "farm" animals.

WE HAD A STALL AT THE PERTH PEACE EXPO - AUG 2016

On our stall we were raising funds for Greener Pastures Sanctuary, Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary and Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary. These 3 sanctuaries rescue animals who have often been treated poorly and abandoned by humans. These lovely people give these animals a second chance at life and love.
We had a Lucky Dip and raised $1,216.00 to be shared between the 3 animal sanctuaries. This includes our donation to ensure all of them received an equal amount. Below are photos we took on the day .

WE HAD A STALL AT THE CRUELTY FREE FAIR - NOV 2015

Thank you to the hard working Animal Liberation WA for making this happen. Looking around yesterday, we could see the massive work that would have been involved in bringing this all together. Well done Animal Lib WA. You've set the bar very high.
We would also like to give a HUGE thank you and group hug to all the people who came to our stall and bought a Lucky Dip bag!  You helped us raise $1045 for Animal Lib WA!
You were all so beautiful and generous.
Special mention to
CheezusCheeze who shared our stall with us! We know the delicious vegan cashew cheeze added some new vegans to the world yesterday....after just one (often two) tastings of their Cheezus Cheeze varieties.
p.s. Big WOOFY thank you to all the doggies that visited us and had their photos taken at our banner. Here is the link to the photo album if you'd like to tag your doggy self or companion human! ♥
